Ach, the only kids in our neighborhood that came out besides my boys were the older kids! They were so disappointed! And confused! All the other parents with elementary school age kids must have decided it was too late to be running around outside on a weeknight or something, so I'm either a very bad mother or a very odd one? Meh. Anyhow, yeah, a Tokyo snowstorm does seem like an occasion for taking to the street - it's hard to contain the excitement that falling snowflakes bring. Especially so when you're a kid.

Nice picture! I love it. It reminds me of 40 years ago in Tokyo when there was a snow storm (very unusual), and all the kids in the neighborhood went crazy. We played out in the street till 9 or 10 in the evening.

Marina - oh yes, we had lots of fun, even if it was dark out! It's a snow day today, so no school, and they're eating breakfast now before they go tearing out into the backyard again.

Ayala, yes, insane is the ONLY word for it. We've been spared the worst of the hurricanes (well, one hit us and ate part of our roof, but as things go not so bad) but it chills me to hear what's happened further up north. I can't help but feel in agreeance with you - frightening sign of climate change, indeed. *shudders*

Andy, sunbathing in Zurich this time of year is just so bizarre. I think we got YOUR snow, sadly.

March, aw, wish we had gotten enough snow to make sledding a good option. We got a good dusting, but for the area we live in there aren't any good parks with hills that are steep enough for sledding with this light of a snowfall. I still have my dad's old toboggen from when he was little! But it's gotten almost no use at all since my family moved to the Pacific NW, since the old style kind with metal runners and a wood body, which requires a deeper snow to work well. Sigh. Oh well!

We spent much of Dec./Jan. in the 60s -- it was 73 degrees a few days ago, people out sunbathing ... should be in the 30s - 40s. Creepy.

Santa brought decent sleds for Christmas, instead of those crap things I buy at CVS that disintegrate. Now all we need is some snow... that wonderful photo makes me want to come play with you.

Isn't this winter insane? This is the third or fourth time this year we are having a snow storm. A serious one. And we had also two or three hurricanes this winter just in the past two weeks. Thousands of trees fell just in Stanley Park!
It may be fun to have a "real" winter for a change, adds some excitement for sure and I'd take snow over rain any day. But, this means something scary is going on globally. I think the climate change has already happened.
Pessimism aside - enjoy the snow with the kids while we still can!
Cheers,
Ayala

Love the photo!!! I hope the boys (and the mama :-)) are having lots of fun. My little one is nagging us for snow. As if we can make it happen. It's nice to know though that she still thinks we are omnipotent :-)
