Made by Blog
Dear readers,
I and my dear friend Marina are extrememly excited to introduce you to a new project, a collective effort between Nobi Shioya (of S-Perfume), Scentzilla, and Perfume Smellin’ Things. It is called Made by Blog (http://madebyblog.com) and is a blog devoted to describing and discussing the process and creation of two special new perfumes. One will be created by Laurent le Guernec for Katie, and the other by Clement Gavarry for Marina. Both perfumers involved have previously worked together in the past on Sarah Jessica Parker’s Lovely. The blog would more or less reflect the development and evolution of the perfumes in “real time.” We invite everyone to try samples of the trial fragrances as they are made available, as well as the final products, and to read and comment at your leisure at Made by Blog. Your feedback will prove most intriguing to read, and will be much appreciated. Registering to comment is as easy as clicking the “register” link on the sidebar at right, and we look forward to hearing your thoughts.
Love,
Marina and Katie

Very exciting is such an understatement for me! I am thrilled, ecstatic, and [insert wildly happy adjectives of choice here.] Thanks so much Victoria!

Katie, that is just so exciting — what an interesting idea!! I am very much looking forward to following your progress.
Speaking of which, I hope your move is going… as well as can be expected under the circumstances? I hope it is not too unsettling for the little dudes, I suspect they might be sensitive to that kind of change. Thinking sweet-smelling thoughts at you. (smells like Wickle C&V! — sweet and a little nutty)

THanks March. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will be as interesting as we all hope it will be. The move part has been going fine overall - it’s all the repairs and more repairs we keep finding at this house that are going to kill me, I swear. The boys (and the dog, too) are having some trouble and are anxious in the new house, but that’s to be expected. And the promise of being able to decorate their rooms any way they like has made it a little better for them. They found picking out the curtains for their rooms all on their own very, very exciting, heh!

Pretty dreamy about Made by Blog! I hope that everyone at your house settles in as soon as possible. Take care of yourselves.

I’m totally jacked to watch and smell this too! Congrats on such a great idea. The perfuming world is changing so fast, and this pulling back of the curtain will be a great education for us all.

Oh thanks so much Mimi - that is wonderful and terribly kind of you to do! Thank you :) I’m afraid much of this will all depend on word-of-mouth, and your post is much appreciated! ♥ to you!
Patty, this is what Marina and I are hoping for - to “pull back the curtain,” as you say. We are both so tickled and honored that you are so enthusiastic about it.

Count me in - this is just a thrill! How fun! I will be following this most avidly.

I’m almost speachless - what an amazing idea!!! This is going to be so much fun, such a way to learn and totaly engrossing to follow.
Lucky, lucky you:-D

Well, aren’t you two the big meow?! ;-)
This is exciting news, and I can imagine how you are spinning, trying to figure out what the heck to choose! Big question — are they also going to create/select bottles for you? We niche perfumes are stuck with stock for the most part, but if they have access to the primo stuff — wow.

Wow…how cool is that? I’ll be all over it! Good luck w/ the moving & acclimating process.

Flora, Ylva, sybil - thanks! I hope to see you there, too :)
Anya, hm, I dunno. Despite the very learned and accomplished perfumers, this is a terribly small operation with a very small budget. The focus is really on the juice, and I guess I totally forgot to even enquire about flacons. Really, I don’t know that I care so much about that, heh! Gimmee that good stuff is more my attitude ;)
June 1st, 2006 at 1:49 pm
Well, then, there has to be a mission to find the perfect bottle, er, flacon for you! That could be accomplished by folks submitting photos of bottles they have, antiques, collectibles, or, perhaps finding a gorgeous new brosse bottle could be donated. Oy, now we have the label, maybe frosting, etching, or silk screening to consider. Cap..oh, the cap, or spritzer. Yikes.
Can you tell where my head has been lately? ;-)
Or, if you really, really, don’t care, you could just plop it, er, pour it into an old tabasco sauce bottle!
You deserve as much consideration as SJP, minus the budget, and Marina does, too, LOL.

What an amazing project. I will be watching this develop with avid interest.

Anya, really, I ain’t gonna be picky. I’m thrilled just to take part :)
Barry, so glad to see you pop in, and thanks!

Ooh la love. How fascinating. I suppose all this hype surrounding celeb scents - cough SJP - got me more interested in perfume, and I can’t wait to watch this blog. I love exploring new arts and crafts people are so passionate about.

Thank you, Kristopher. That’s much appreciated, and I hope you will continue to find the whole process interesting.
