Creation Mathias L’eau de Figue
You can smell the crunch of autumn leaves in L’eau de Figue right from the get-go. Smokey dry leaves are scattered all across this fragrance. Fused into the core are wine-stewed figs and a decidedly strong green rind note. All these parts are sewn together into a whole that is seamless and well-made. That surprised me, because the only other Mathias scent I tried, the Tuberose, was forgettable. (I say forgettable because I’ve tried it four different times, and still couldn’t tell you a thing about it.) L’eau de Figue is a worthwhile fragrance to seek out if you are a fig lover. Maybe even if you’re not a fig lover, for that matter - it’s quite interesting. I bet this would make a great room fragrance. It lasts on my skin for about four hours before I feel like I need to refresh it some.
I’ll be honest, I like the Henri Bendel Wild Fig, but agree it doesn’t last long and smells edible. It was my first try at a fig scented perfume. I would like to try the Mathias Eau De Figue, but at $60 and only on your advice what if I don’t like it!
Do you know where to get any free samples or a retailer that sells it?

Ooof, I’m searching around and I can’t find any etailers that sell samples of the Fig anymore! Makeupheaven.com does offer it as a sample choice if you make a purchase, but it looks like they don’t sell samples anymore. The other etailers who sell fragrance samples don’t seem to be carrying the Fig at all… and yet they carry the less-than-stellar Tuberose - I’m surprised by that. As far as retailers here in the US, I’ve heard of people finding the Mathias’ dirt cheap at TJ Maxx, but I have never seen anything that good at the one located where I live, so that’s a total long shot. You might try writing the company to request a sample, and just explain to them that you’re unable to find it to try it out first. That doesn’t always work, some companies are more courteous than others, but it’s worth a try. Here’s their contact info from the website. If nothing else, they might be willing to direct you to a store or boutique near you that carries the Fig. Dang - wish I had some I could send you just to save you the trouble. Good luck, hopefully it can be found without too many problems :)
